EDWARDSVILLE – A homeless Granite City man was charged Monday with felony domestic battery.
Shawn M. Staten, listed as homeless out of Granite City, was charged June 5 with aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, and domestic battery (second subsequent offense), a Class 4 felony.
The case was presented by the Granite City Police Department.
According to court documents, on June 2 Staten allegedly strangled a household or family member, and struc them in the face and leg with his fist.
It was noted he has a prior conviction for aggravated battery and the victim was a family or household member, out of Madison County in 2018.
Bail was set at $75,000.
Other felony charges filed June 5 by the Madison County State's Attorney's Office include:
• Daniel R. Hilkemeyer, 30, of Godfrey, was charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony. The case was presented by the Madison County Sheriff's Department. According to court documents, on June 3 Hilkemeyer allegedly struck a senior citizen in the head and body, causing lacerations. Bail was set at $60,000.
• Izayah M. Stewart, 22, of Alton, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons, a Class 4 felony. The case was presented by the Alton Police Department. According to court documents, on June 3 Stewart allegedly was carrying a .40 caliber handgun in a motor vehicle while "engaged in a misdemeanor violation of the Cannabis Control Act." Bail was set at $40,000.
• Alfonso Santos-Olivera, 44, of Fairmont City, was charged with obstructing justice, a Class 4 felony, and unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID, both Class A misdemeanors. The case was presented by the Madison County Sheriff's Department. According to court documents, on May 26 Santos-Olivera allegedly gave police a false name, resulting in citations being issued under that name; was carrying a Remington 870 Express Magnum shotgun in public without a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card. Bail was set at $20,000.
