"Let's hit Five Below next." That text helped state troopers catch an accomplice in a shoplifting spree across Granite Run recently.
Troopers were dispatched to the Kohl's on Baltimore Pike about 5:41 p.m. on May 4 for the report of a woman involved in a retail theft, but before troopers arrived the thief had fled in a black Ford Focus with Delaware plates.
At the same time Boscov's, also in the Granite Run complex, alerted police to another retail theft in progress with the same description of a suspect.
Troopers arrived and were able to arrest a suspect, Nye’jierra Drummond, 28, of Wilmington.
While Drummond was being processed at the barracks she received a text on her cellphone stating, "Yo You good, let's hit Five Below next", then "where you at."
Additional troopers who had converged in the area, located the vehicle reported from the Kohl's theft. It was waiting by the Five Below. The operator, Tre'tearra Parson, 23 also of Wilmington was placed under arrest.
Thieves stole $2,545 worth of fragrances and $1,024 in clothing during the spree, troopers said. The Focus was seized as part of the investigation.
Court records indicate the two women were charged with receiving stolen property and retail theft. They were held on 10% of $15,000, which both posted on May 9 to await a preliminary hearing June 7th in front of District Justice Walter Strohl.
