(Granite Falls, MN) -- The state Public Utilities Commission is holding hearings this week about a proposed 170-mile high-voltage power line that would run across southwest Minnesota. Xcel Energy wants to build the power line to connect a substation in Lyon County to the utility's Sherco substation in Becker. Xcel says the line will help the utility connect up to four-thousand megawatts of electricity to the Minnesota power grid. Public hearings are scheduled in Granite Falls and Olivia tomorrow and Marshall and Redwood Falls on Thursday.
